Wood Fence

Wood fences are a popular choice among those looking for a natural look and feel.  It blends in beautifully with the surrounding environment.  Wood can also be stained or painted to enhance the coloring and extend the life of the fence.  A wood fence is strong and is easily repaired if needed.

A treated southern yellow pine fence should age well and gray naturally if left untreated.  However it is inevitable that smaller wood posts will decay over time and therefore does not have the limited lifetime warranty provided by vinyl & metal manufacturers.

The more popular wood fence styles include:

  • Picket fence
  • Privacy fence
  • Semi-Privacy fence
  • Estate fence
  • Split-Rail fence

Many fence companies install “Appearance-grade” fence boards. Appearance-grade means the wood is graded between a #1 and #2 and tends to have numerous knots and sometimes bark on the board.  It’s not a finished look.

At Anderson Fence we use a nicer looking “D-grade” board for our fences. A D-grade board is defined by its quality – having minimal tiny knots and no bark.  These nicely finished boards are treated and add a level of beauty to your wood fence.  This higher quality board distinguishes our wood fences from the competition.

Below are the most common styles for the tops of your wood pickets.
